The nursing home
The nursing home is located on the ground floor and divided into two smaller units. It is registered to accommodate twenty-three residents over the age of 65 years who are physically frail and/or have dementia. It provides two lounges each with dining areas where residents can choose to take their meals. Care provided in the nursing home is supervised at all times by a Registered Nurse.
Each resident is assessed prior to being admitted to Symonds House. On admission the Registered Nurse will repeat the assessment with the resident and establish a plan of care. This is constantly reviewed according to residents changing needs.
In the nursing home there are four bathrooms equipped to assist residents with bathing. It has 13 single en-suite rooms, 3 shared en-suite rooms and 2 single rooms with wash hand basin. There are also 2 WCs within the home. All the beds within the home are fully adjustable and can be fitted with special mattresses to improve comfort for residents. There are several hoists available to assist manoeuvring residents appropriately.
All rooms in the residential and nursing homes are simply furnished with a wardrobe, drawers, comfortable bed and chairs, however, residents are encouraged to bring their own furniture (subject to fire regulations) television, pictures and ornaments.
Both the residential and nursing home benefit from a full-time activities organiser, who produces a weekly social programme, families are welcome to join in any of the social events and activities.
Personal items of clothing are washed and ironed in our laundry on a daily basis. Our hairdresser visits twice a week and the Chiropodist visits every two months. Symonds house has a Chapel located on the ground floor. A service takes place every Monday morning.
All meals are freshly prepared every day. Residents have several choices from each menu and special diets can be catered for.
Medical cover can be arranged with Linton Health Centre. The doctors visit the home twice a week, but should a resident require urgent medical attention a doctor will visit by request.
